Dear Playground Enthusiasts: We are delighted to once again bring you the yearly update of the Grants for your state. LuckyDog Recreation has your best interest at heart so please do not hesitate to use our expertise to help you get playground/athletic equipment and equipment/bicycle grants. Have a question? Regional Opportunities:


Rocky Mountain Power Grants: As the philanthropic arm of Rocky Mountain Power, the Foundation of the same name serves the growth and vitality of communities in Utah, Wyoming, and Southeastern Idaho. The Foundation limits it grants to charitable organizations with 501(c)3 tax exemption status, but eligibility is further restricted to programs listed below:


● Educational and research organizations both public and private, from early childhood through university level (proposals due March 15)

● Environment, civic and community enhancement and other organizations not covered in other categories (due June 15)

● Arts and culture organizations dedicated to performing arts, visual arts, historic preservation, cross-cultural education and related (due September 15)

● Health, safety and wellness organizations including youth organizations, senior citizen centers, dependency and prevention programs and related (due December 15)

State-Wide:


George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation: Five categories: Arts and Culture to Preservation and Conservation. Foundation gifts are directed to eligible charitable organizations that will provide a variety of services. Click Here


Walmart Community Programs: Walmart Foundation's key areas of focus, Sustainability are Opportunity and Community. Through the Community Grant Program, Walmart supports the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. Look at their eligibility guide.

Amount: $250 to $5,000.

Community Development Grants: This program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area. Click Here


R.A.M.P (Weber County Utah): Funds for qualifying city and county entities and nonprofit organizations operating publicly owned facilities within Weber County will be made available under Major Projects on the basis of a formal application. Click Here


Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant: The project will enhance recreational opportunities and amenities in Utah’s communities. The built recreational infrastructure must provide an economic opportunity for the local area with the ability to increase visitation, boost local businesses and/or attract and retain residents. American Express One of the three divisions of American Express grant program includes community service which could be a good fit for playground installations. Check out their website to learn more about projects that have been funded, initiatives and how to apply.

Bank of the West's Charitable Investments Program: This program is limited to public, nonprofit charitable 501(c)(3) organizations/agencies, with special consideration for projects serving low to moderate income individuals and communities. R. Harold Burton Foundation: Grant proposals are considered from established tax-exempt organizations and institutions whose purposes are charitable or educational, primarily established in the greater Salt Lake metropolitan area. Click Here


National Opportunities:


Albertson Foundation: The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation believes in making Idaho a place to continuously learn, thrive, and prosper. We invest our resources based on a passion for LEARNING, PEOPLE, and COMMUNITIES. They are dedicated to raising awareness and expanding ways to learn; and to enhancing sense of place and community for all Idahoans. Allstate: Programs should focus on safety education with a special emphasis on youth, tolerance and inclusion. Their Safe and Vital Communities funding focuses on Teen Safe Driving, Catastrophe Response, and Neighborhood Revitalization.

ACHIEVE Healthy Communities: ACHIEVE (Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and Environmental change) is sponsored by the (CDC). Selected national organizations collaborate with CDC to enhance local communities’ abilities to help prevent or manage health-risk factors for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and arthritis. Specific activities are directed toward promoting physical activity and healthy eating, improving access to quality preventive healthcare services, and eliminating health disparities. Some examples of community based improvements include, but are not limited to, increased access to and use of attractive and safe locations for engaging in physical activity. Click Here


Aegon Transamerica Foundation: Transamerica believes their responsibilities go beyond corporate walls. Therefore they created the Aegon Transamerica Foundation. Through financial grants and the volunteer commitment of their employees, they support non-profit organizations focused on the education, health and well-being of the communities where they live and work. The Foundation’s grant dollars go to the following categories of non-profit organizations: Arts & Culture: Programs that foster creativity in the areas of music and the performing arts, including venues for artistic expression and Health & Welfare: Programs committed to improving the condition of the human body through nutrition, housing for the homeless, disease prevention and more. Aetna Foundation Obesity Prevention Grant Program: The Aetna Foundation want to learn more about the underlying causes of obesity so they can inform and shape effective health and wellness programs. They want to understand the causes that contribute to obesity, particularly among minority populations, and how to support and sustain better choices in order to prevent overeating and reduce inactivity.

Amount: Regional: $25,000 - $40,000 / National: $50,000 - $150,000

Aetna Healthy Eating Active Living Grants: The Aetna Foundation funds community wellness initiatives that align with the Health Eating and Active Living focus. Grants will support local nonprofits that increase physical activity, helping to prevent childhood obesity and chronic health conditions. Grants aim to serve low-income, undeserved, minority communities.

Austin Parks Foundation: Partners with our community to enhance people’s lives by making our public parks, trails and green spaces better through volunteerism, innovative programming, advocacy and financial support. As the anchor of their ACL Music Festival Grants Program, Community Grants are intended for large, community-initiated park improvement projects that fall between $5,000 to $50,000. Check out their Impact Grant for larger projects, or their Neighborhood Grants for smaller projects. These grants are offered twice a year with a grant period of 12 months, and are awarded through a competitive process.

Bank of America: Working in partnership with community leaders, Bank of America’s local market leadership directs the majority of our giving through local grants that address pressing social, economic, and cultural needs of communities across their global footprint. In addition, they partner with national organizations such as the United Way of America and Habitat for Humanity International to direct resources to local communities. Through their signature philanthropic program, the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative™, they enhance nonprofits’ ability to serve more individuals and families in need and develop nonprofit visionaries, local heroes, and students as the community leaders of today and tomorrow.

CVS Caremark Community Grant: To ensure that they make a positive impact, the CVS Community Grants Program will focus on inclusive programs and programs for children with disabilities under age 21; academic and enrichment programs at public schools; and programs that provide access to quality health care services and health education for at risk and underserved populations of all ages.

Deadline Rolling: beginning on January 1 and ending on October 31

Staples: 2 Million & Change: Must make a connection with a Staples associate and request nomination of your organization to be eligible to apply for grant opportunity. Click Here


Good Sports: Grants available to organizations that directly serve youth in an economically disadvantaged area, and operates an organized sport, recreational activity or fitness program. Click Here


Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant: Lowe’s will donate up to $5 million to public schools and public school parent teacher groups. Raise up to $5,000 for your school in minutes. Click Here


Honda Foundation Community Grant: The Honda Foundation awards grants three times per year: February 1, May 1 and August 1st. The May 1st deadline is reserved for previous applicants. Applicants must have projects that fit within the Honda Foundation guidelines characterized by: imaginative, creative, youthful, forward-thinking, scientific, humanistic and innovative.

Deadline: February 1 or August 1

Amount: $20,000-$75,000

Keen Effect Grant: Keen awards $100,000 per year to eligible organizations. Grant applications open in August and are due in September. Grants range in size from $2,500-$10,000. Programs or projects should inspire youth through experiences in the outdoors through play, scientific education, or stewardship program. Click Here


Dr. Scholl's Grant: Funding nationwide in the areas of education, social services, healthcare, civic and culture, and environmental. Proposals are not limited to only these areas as other proposals will be accepted. Grant cycles are annually reviewed and due between October and March.

Wells Fargo Corporate Giving: Forty-four states served by Wells Fargo are eligible to apply for the Wells Fargo Corporate Giving Grant. Local contact information can be found by following the link for state specific giving requests.

Christopher and Dana Reeve Quality of Life Grant: The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation funds a variety of programs that meet one of the three key areas of priority funding: Actively Achieving, Bridging Barriers, or Caring and Coping. Non-profit organizations, municipal governments, school districts, tribal entities, or community organizations. Applicants should show proof of providing individuals with disabilities opportunities to participate in activities that engage both the body and mind. These activities should include personal growth and nurture independence.

Shade Structure Grant: The American Academy of Dermatology's (AAD) Shade Structure Program awards funds to schools, day-cares, parks, and other non-profit organizations for installing permanent shade structures where children learn and play. Click Here


Campbell Soup Foundation: The Campbell Soup Foundation focuses its giving on three strategic areas including: Encouraging healthy living through nutrition education and physical activity and nurturing Campbell neighborhoods by transforming the physical spaces where people live, learn, and play. As of 2019, the Foundation has moved to an invitation-only grant process, see requirements at the website. Click Here

Fred Meyer Community Rewards: Your patrons, parents, supporters, link their Rewards Card to your non-profit. Earn a quarterly donation by enrolling your non-profit at the customer service kiosk at your local Fred Meyer store. Click Here
